On the Issues: Cape Wind’s 9-year Delay

After being held up for nearly a decade due to conflicts over the economical benefits and potential environmental harms, the Cape Wind project will become the nation’s first offshore wind farm.

Cape Wind will consist of 130 wind-powered turbines that will be placed in the Nantucket Sound. This has sparked opposition from homeowners and environmentalists, and has played a role in the nine year delay of the project. The Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, stationed in Hyannis, Mass., said the turbines’ rotors could cause a catastrophic amount of kills in some of the six million birds that migrate through the region. Others have said that the fishermen working in the South Cape will be put out of business.

On the Issues: Jackie Bunt

Also opposed to the project are leaders of the Wampanoag Indians, who have said that the turbine blades would destroy sunrise views that are essential for prayer ceremonies.

The late Senator Ted Kennedy also fought against this project’s development for many years. I am sure he had good reason, I mean, the turbines would be visible from the Kennedy family compound in Hyannisport. Not a pretty site, I would imagine.

The Return of Futurama

Attention all Futurama lovers and Futurama unknowers:

Coming soon to Comedy Central– the return of Futurama! Wow, after reading Futurama so many times it starts to sound silly. Let’s just say ‘Rama is returning to television this summer.

Very exciting to people who loved the show, and also exciting for people who never got into it. Now everyone has a chance to learn about it and love it. [Wow Jackie, I never knew you were  such a fan. Is it after we watched it in M. Langford’s class? I always cry at the series finale when Fry plays the holophone for Leila and it plays a picture of them holding hands, o god o god. – ab]

Sheer Talent? More Like Sheer Humiliation

Have you ever tried to start a band? If you’re anything like me (and for God’s sake let’s hope not) then you probably have.

I can still remember the day me, my twin and our girlfriends decided to form B.E.G. That’s an acronym for “Brown Eyed Girls.” None of us knew how to play any instruments, or sing, or write music or lyrics, but that didn’t matter, dammit! It was about the passion. And passing time on a snow day.

From what I remember I was basically the Paul, John, and George Martin of the band. I wrote songs, attempted the guitar and I think I even made a website devoted to us. Of course we broke up before we could release our EP, but Buntology has recently uncovered a demo that’s sure to wet any cult B.E.G. follower’s appetite.

Pandora: Perfect for Your Christmas Cheer!

One of the best parts of the holiday season is the music. While I start listening to “The Muppets Christmas Carol” soundtrack in early November, others wait until after Thanksgiving to pop in the ol’ Christmas classics.

Sure- the old classics are great, but I like to add some new tunes into the mix. One of the best ways to discover new music is on the ultimate online radio station, Pandora.com.

Eric Hutchinson is ‘Alright With Me’

I may be out of the music loop, because I just discovered singer/songwriter, Eric Hutchinson.  Thanks to Pandora I came across this young biddy and really liked what I heard.

His hit single “Alright With Me”, became stuck in my head, and after hearing a few more tunes off his album, “Sounds Like This”, I decided to buy the CD.

Hutchinson released his album, “Sounds Like This”, on his own in 2007, and the album soared to number 5 on the Itunes Store. Warner Bros. Records picked up the album in 2008, and now the 29-year-old is touring with Kelly Clarkson.

Bunty Throwback: RTH ’08 Outtakes

Some outtake footage from last winter’s Rock the House. This was right after Angie got really really sick with what we now believe was an early strain of H1N1 — or maybe she just shouldn’t have eaten a gram of weed when she was already kind of sick and away at Westfield State. Ah, youth.

Anyway, Jackie apparently wanted attention, too. “I’m the most dedicated person on this staff .. ing .. system …” You still are, Jack. You still are.

Kanye West is Still an Asshole, Taylor Swift is Still Really Cool

The MTV Video Music Awards aired Sunday night.

I don’t think I’ve watched these awards since I was in middle school, but I am a huge Taylor Swift fan and I knew she was up for Best Female Video. It was the first award given out and Taylor won!

Not even three sentences into her acceptance speech our always sweet Taylor was rudely interrupted by none other than Kanye West.

He pulled the microphone out of her hand after storming onto the stage and said, “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m going to let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,” he shouted. “One of the best videos of all time!”

My New Favorite Shows

bunttt

Over the last couple of months, my life has revolved around a DVR and Netflix. That makes me sound like a huge loser who just watches TV and movies all day, but once you get into a good show you just don’t want to leave your house. The characters become your new friends. That is healthy right?

During a Hurricane You Should Probably Stay Away From Water

bill.tir

Acadia National Park’s Thunder Hole, located in Maine, is a place where many tourists are known for gathering to watch waves crash into a crevasse and make a thundering sound while splashing high in the air.

This past Sunday many tourists went to check out the waves caused by Hurricane Bill.

Now you would think that hurricane+waves would make you be a little cautious. I am sure it made a cool sound, but while there is a hurricane frolicking throughout the Atlantic Ocean it might be a tad dangerous.
