blink 182 on leno, ange on her futon watching

Blink 182 appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday and Wednesday to perform songs off their greatest hits album and promote their upcoming summer tour.

On Tuesday the band performed “The Rock Show” with Mark Hoppus on lead vocals. Donning tight black pants and his subtle-yet-spikey hairdo, Hoppus left the viewers (me) wondering if he ever ages (aka is still so hot).

Travis Barker was also in full effect, and I’m sure I’m not alone when I say it felt damn good to see him drumming again.

Tom DeLonge completed the trio, with his trademark nasally voice chiming in during each chorus — “Cause I fell. In. Love!

On Wednesday they appeared on the show again, with DeLonge taking the lead in “All the Small Things.”

I couldn’t help but be distracted by this drone-y thing DeLonge was doing with his voice that was very reminiscent of the vocals in Angels and Airwaves. It made me wonder if he’s into Blink reuniting, or if he’s just into cash after his “gift to music” ended up in the clearance aisle.

Watching this performance of “All the Small Things” in comparison to the classic 2000 VMA performance (you know, the one that had all the little people dancing on the stage) made it painfully obvious that much has changed within the band.

The members are older, the fans are older, and as upbeat a track as “All the Small Things” or “The Rock Show” is, the band can’t quite sell it the way they used to. Without dynamic and interesting new material, Blink 182 will just be a bunch of out-of-place 30-somethings running around onstage in Atticus and Macbeth t-shirts.

As “All the Small Things” ended, Hoppus jumped onto the drum kit, bass in tow, and he and DeLonge played as hard as they could for the duration of the song.

Who am I kidding? Those boys can still rock.
