Big D Never Fails to Please at Pearl St. Nightclub

Northampton, MA – Big D and the Kids Table, a punk-ska band from Boston, Mass., played an excellent set last weekend for their “Fluent in Stroll Tour” at Pearl Street Nightclub in Northampton.

Big D is known for playing the Pearl Street club often and they gave the crowd what they wanted. The band began their set with a lot of their new songs to promote their latest release, Fluent in Stroll, and also played some of their classics.

I have seen them play many times, and this was another amazing show. It was one of the best performances of them that I’ve seen.

Medeski Martin & Wood at Mass Moca

Contemporary jazz trio Medeski Martin & Wood performed earlier this month at Mass Moca in North Adams, Massachusetts.

While I wasn’t super familiar with the group going into the show, after a couple Steel Rails and a set-break clambake these guys had me moving and grooving.  I’m not well-versed enough in the band to spout off about the concert, but it should be noted that at the beginning of the show I made a joke  about bassist Chris Wood “jerking off” onstage with his bass guitar. Later in the evening, after the realization that none of the songs I was dancing to had any lyrics, it occured to me that Wood wasn’t so much jerking off as he was talking to the audience, only he was using bass chords instead of vocal chords.
