The Alchemystics ‘Spread Hope’ in true summer style

As every good music fan knows, sometimes even the best album can take a few listens before it starts to grow on you. Often, the catchiest tracks are found and played on repeat, until the rest of the album is slowly integrated into the listening cycle, at which point- if the CD is good- the listener begins to fall in love with the entire body of work. And sometimes you have the pleasure of love at first listen. This is the rare occasion in which you pop on a new album and are instantly … [Read more...]

Music that I pay for, and why you should pay for it, too.

When I was a kid all I cared about was buying music. Every week when I got paid from whatever dinky job I was working (solely to support this cd-purchasing habit), I would cash my check, head to the mall and salivate down the aisles of Best Buy until I picked out whatever obscure-ass shit my 7th grade self was listening to. By the time I graduated high-school I had a massive music collection which I kept alphabetized in a humongous booklet. I was meticulous with my CDs; they were in … [Read more...]

A quickie with… Iron & Wine: Our Endless Numbered Days

The second studio album from singer songwriter Samuel Beam, former college professor turned indie legend, turns six years old this spring. Iron & Wine's popularity and influence has become increasingly harder to ignore since Beam stopped teaching and started recording music full time. Having written songs used in television shows and films as far back as Garden State and as recently as Twilight, (did I lose you right there? Stay with me, I'm sorry) Beam's songs are no secret to the … [Read more...]

Buntology’s year in music: Thanks for the memories!

Wow! We can't believe 2009 has come to an end. This year saw a lot in music, and so did the staff at Buntology. Between Phish, festies, and a smattering of new and classic rock concerts, it's going to be hard to top all of the awesome performances 2009 had to offer. But, before we look at the music, let's take a second to remember the great musicians that passed away this year: Ron Asheton (The Stooges), Jay Bennet (Wilco), Bob Bogle (The Ventures), Ean Evans (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Adam Goldstein … [Read more...]

Crooked Vultures not your average rock n’ rollers

Based out of Los Angeles, rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures (featuring Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones) has emerged. Homme plays lead guitar and Grohl is at drums again, like back in the days of Nirvana. As for JPJ, what doesn’t he play? Of course he is ripping on the bass, but the new album consists of more than just regular guitar, bass and drums. Jones also plays keyboard, piano, mandolin, slide guitar and keytar. The new album was released on November 17 … [Read more...]

Michael Buble is Buble’ing up the charts

Michael Bublé's latest album, Crazy Love is number 1 on the Billboard charts for the second week in a row. I have been a fan of Michael's music since I was a freshman in college. (Thank you for introducing me to him William Cimino) This new album is by far my favorite yet. He is known for covering classic jazz hits from Frank Sinatra to Dean Martin, and even Nat King Cole. Michael Buble takes each song and re works it to make it his own. He has also written numerous hit singles like, … [Read more...]
