Since I was twelve years old, all I ever wanted to do was go see live music. … [Read more...]
Fear & loathing on a Megabus
It was already getting dark out when I boarded the Megabus, leaving the comfort of my parents' home in the Berkshires and stepping into the harsh reality that is the Albany to NYC bus route. … [Read more...]
Angie vacations in a onesie
I recently took a much-needed vacation. Despite my frequent cracks about sitting on my couch alone, crying, watching Food Network, eating, smoking pot, etc., I'm actually actually a pretty busy person, so I planned on relaxing as much as possible during my 10 days off. People asked me where I was going - "Somewhere tropical?" "Vegas?" "The beach? You could really use some color." But where I was going was far more wild and exotic than an island getaway. I was going back to North Adams, … [Read more...]
Summer Music highlights: The Stuff That You Didn’t See
What an amazing summer I've had, filled with live music, festivals and 100 percent humidity. And while it may be coming to an end (the season, not the music!), it doesn't mean we can't look back on some highlights that you- our dear readers- didn't get to see... Phish @ Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO. - 9/4 OK, so I didn't really go to the show, but my friend and I attended a live stream of the webcast at the Roy Arias Theater in Times Square and it was AWESOME. Every … [Read more...]
Live-blogging Hurricane Irene in NYC
Whaddya do when you're stuck inside with nothing to do but ride out a hurricane? You write about it, obviiii. Saturday, 11 a.m. Head to the store before noon (that's when stuff started closing) to get "supplies." Holy sh*t you would think the apocalypse struck NYC. Part of me thinks that people are just using this storm as an excuse to buy as much unhealthy food as possible and completely pig out for the weekend. Even if the storm was at its worst and lasted two full days with no water or … [Read more...]
Bella Terra ’11 gets all the important stuff right
What makes a festival awesome? Yes, Sherwood forests, silent discos, karma car-washes and 5k races are fun- but for most, the heart and soul of a festy lies in the music. That's why - despite a couple snafus - Bella Terra Festival, held last weekend in Stephentown, N.Y., got it right. The biggest draw of this festival, now with three years under its belt, was the line-up. Packed into three days were over 50 acts, with some [personal] highlights including Buckethead, Fear Nuttin Band, … [Read more...]
It ain’t easy for a playa’ – Single and the city edition #2
The last time the topic of online dating was brought up on this website, it ended in a Welch's-drinking pedophile and a lonely birthday cake. Because of this, I shelved the idea for a few months and decided I would let fate do all the work for me. Everybody knows you'll never find your man if you're out looking for him! And you certainly won't find him while you're home eating endless rolls of sushi, picking dry skin off the heels of your feet while you sing along to Les Miserables on … [Read more...]
‘I’ve never seen this much dancing in the presence of so many eggs…’
...A Cautionary Tale About Brunch by Angela & Colin COLIN: You know my feelings on brunch. Particularly, brunch on a Sunday. I hate to be the designated driver of the Sunday Funday set, but boys (and bois) and girls (and grrrls), let’s be realistic. Do you really want to wake up at 8:30 p.m. sweaty and cotton-mouthed, with home fries in your hair, wondering where your phone is and why your roommate is hanging half out of the bathroom, clutching a crumbly tube of Ritz crackers to … [Read more...]
On the road again (pass the Chex Mix)
My friend and I thought it would be fun to go with her boyfriend's band to a couple of their shows last weekend. While I was able to fulfill my lifelong fantasy of being a merch girl- or, the girl who carries a box of t-shirts from the van to the venue- I ultimately realized that being in a band seems like way too much work. I'm exhausted and all I did was dance and pass out in the back of my friend's Acton all weekend. Check out some of the pics I snapped on the trip that took me from NYC … [Read more...]
